Hey Grapeviners!
Roses are red, violets are blue…. It’s still raining, but we’ve got a cracking newsletter for you!
In Granada this week, the calendar is packed: festivals, art, live music, VOSE film and... it’s Valentine’s Day! 💘
Carnaval kicks off on Friday… and just to confuse everyone, the festivities take place on different days in different barrios and pueblos across Granada! (We’ve rounded up all the Carnaval information into this Instagram post.) Plus, there are Chinese New Year celebrations on Friday with dragon dancing in the city’s streets. 🐉
If your perfect Valentine’s day involves taking your loved one by the hand and stroking your chins whilst admiring art, you’ll be interested to hear that Granada’s contemporary art festival, Feria Lateral starts today.
For more arty farty stuff, check out our list of Granada exhibitions - and if you’re feeling creative… why not go to this arty party at the Geometric Art Studio! 🎨

Who’s hiding behind these Carnaval masks? 👇 Answer at the bottom of the email.

🎵 Musical Highlights:
Saturday is Valentine’s day and love folk is in the air with not one but four Celtic and/or American folk acts setting the mood. Romantic jigs aside, Dave’s Faves™ are Rufus T. Firefly, the long-running (cult, apparently) indie band. (Listen | Watch). Lucas De Mulder is a funk guitarist with a tight band supporting him. (Listen | Watch). Zé Eduardo Trío + Perico Sambeat, a talented line-up making for a promising gig. (Watch). The Concierto a Dos Pianos - Hermanas Beiztegui boasts a varied programme spanning a range of styles and eras. Finally, anyone hoping to win a special place in Dave’s heart this Valentine’s day should patrol the queues for Carmina Burana and Concierto de Aranjuez, correcting anyone they hear claiming Carmina Burana was the music from The Omen (which it categorically was not!).

Happy Valentine’s for Saturday, everyone! Click that big red button below and let someone in on your secret for knowing everything that’s happening in the city… Sharing is caring, after all.

Salvador Dalí and Federico García Lorca met in 1923 at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, where they became close friends. Both were emerging artists - Dalí in painting and Lorca in poetry and theatre - and they influenced each other during an important formative period in their careers. Their relationship was intense and creatively charged, with Lorca believed to have had romantic feelings for Dalí, though Dalí’s response was more ambiguous.
