Hello Grapeviners,
We’ve a long weekend ahead! Saturday is Día de Andalucía, sparking celebrations across the region and novelties such as free entry at the science park and a fancy-dress fun run in Lanjarón. As usual, each pueblo will celebrate in a unique way. (See this Instagram post for a province-wide round up.)
Flealejo is happening on Sunday, but that’s not the only market on offer this weekend. If you prefer yours with knights and falcons, head to Zaidín where the Medieval Market takes over the otherwise very modern Plaza Hípica. Nearby, there’s a wine festival in Alhama de Granada and a local food fair in Huetór Santillán (featuring craft beers). 🍷🍺

Daves Faves™️: Texture - Alberto Raya at Teatro Isabel La Católica looks to be a promising concert from a talented local pianist. Javypablo perform feel-good upbeat sunny sounds at Sala Planta Baja. Derby Motoreta's Burrito Kachimba (playing at Industrial Copera) make impressive noise that doesn’t take itself too seriously (a bit like myself). Taberna J&J celebrate the big “49” with the enjoyable Jaguardiente playing funk, soul, R&B (free entry). Cremita Jam at Taberna JJ is led this week by the excellent guitarist Rycardo Moreno.

That’s all for this week - we hope you enjoyed reading! Whatever you get up to this weekend... Happy Día de Andalucía 🇳🇬💃🏻 and buen finde!

Blas Infante (1885–1936) was a politician, writer and intellectual from Casares, Malaga, widely regarded as the father of Andalusian nationalism. He championed the region's right to self-governance and cultural identity, designing the green and white Andalusian flag and composing the lyrics to its anthem. In 1918 he led the first Andalusian assembly in Ronda, laying the groundwork for the autonomy movement. He was executed by Nationalist forces in Seville at the start of the Spanish Civil War. The Día de Andalucía holiday on 28 Feb honours the 1980 referendum that finally granted the region autonomy - a direct result of the movement he started.
